About Charla
I believe erotic education is a basic human right and positive, accurate sex information can change your life.
Before founding BodyJoy, I was a mother, wife, and community leader in a western Colorado town where I was a newspaper columnist. I entrepreneured an energy efficiency business and was concertmaster of the community orchestra. A former high school theater teacher, I was owner/artist of a mountain stained glass studio.
After separating from my husband of 20 years, I found myself in San Francisco where I attended the Body Electric School in Oakland. I discovered sex-positive erotic education and a fire was lit. Connecting with my own power to expand sexually I further trained at Body Electric as a Sacred Intimate and opened a private practice coaching intimacy to individuals and couples after I moved to Austin in 2002.
The summer of 2004 I was certified as a Sexological Bodyworker in the second graduating class of a new profession of erotic body workers and somatic educators trained at the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality by Joseph Kramer in San Francisco. Certified by the state of California, I'm trained to use erotic bodywork to help others access deep states of trance and embodiment for sexual healing and personal transformation.
A long time Sufi dancer, yoga practitioner, and devotee of Goddess Wisdom, I was drawn to Tantra and studied sacred sexuality with Margo Anand, author of The Art of Sexual Ecstasy, and studied massage at Esalen Institute.
Currently a founding member of the Association of Sexual Energy Professionals (www.goASEP.org) and member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists, I have presented at national sexuality conferences.
A mature woman, comfortable and wise in my body, I counsel all seeking BodyJoy to reclaim your birthright to pleasure and body's natural potential for ecstasy, health, and joy.
